Football season is here! And that means Philadelphia fans are breaking out their jerseys and high hopes for another season of Eagles football. Tailgating before a Birds game at Lincoln Financial Field is one of the best atmospheres in all of football, but there are some things to keep in mind to ensure that you make it into the game and back home safely.
With that being said, here are some safety tips for tailgating in Philly.
Be Mindful of Food Temperatures
One of the best parts of tailgating is all of the food involved. This can range from a full-blown cookout to just some simple snacks and sandwiches. But either way, it’s important to make sure all the food is stored in and maintains proper temperature throughout the tailgate. This will prevent harmful bacteria from growing on the food that can cause food poisoning.
Grill with Caution
Another part of tailgate food prep that is important to be mindful of is the grill. There’s nothing wrong with grilling at a tailgate, just make sure you’re doing it safely. Never light the grill with the top closed. This can cause an explosion. Be sure to keep the grill at least six feet away from any vehicles or combustible materials and NEVER grill on or in your car. Make sure your grill sits on a flat, even surface so that it doesn’t tip over and properly put out the flame when finished cooking.
Bring Trash Bags
Glass bottles and other trash can be a danger in the parking lot when not disposed of correctly. Broken glass can cause injury to people and puncture car tires. Bring heavy-duty, large trash bags with you and make sure all of the trash from your tailgate makes it inside of them.
Peace of Mind Parking
Down at Lincoln Financial Field there are numerous lots to park in. Many of these cost money or require a permit that accompanies your ticket. While it might be tempting to park farther away from the stadium down some side street, keep in mind that the lots you have to pay for are more secure and closer. Don’t worry about getting towed or whether or not where you parked is safe, just park in one of the stadium’s sanctioned lots and enjoy the tailgating with peace of mind.
Wear Eagles Green
This should go without saying, but DON’T WEAR THE OPPOSING TEAM’S COLORS! This is particularly important if the Eagles are playing a division foe like Dallas, New York or Washington. Wear your Eagles green or stay neutral—but what fun is that? Just represent the home team and you’ll be treated well in the City of Brotherly Love.
If you’re down tailgating at the game and happen to lock your keys in your car, have no fear. South Philadelphia Locksmith is here to help 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Put the number in your phone now so that you have it throughout the season: 215-987-8681.
